IV Working Group Meeting of Asunción – 2017

Event: 4th Meeting of the Working Group on Bioceanic Corridors

Activity Objective

The meeting aimed to follow up on discussions and agreements made in previous meetings, as well as to advance the implementation of the Bioceanic Corridor, which connects Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile, and to promote cooperation on key issues such as infrastructure, logistics, and border procedures.

Activity Description

The Working Group on Bioceanic Corridors was created following the Asunción Declaration of 2015 by the Presidents of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay. The fourth meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters and included high-level delegations from the four involved countries.

Topics Addressed Works in the Paraguayan Chaco: Discussions on the progress in the bidding process and construction works in the Paraguayan Chaco region. Carmelo Peralta-Puerto Murtinho International Bridge: Status of the project. Jama Pass: Modernization of the pass and road works in Argentine territory linked to the corridor. Free Trade Zones: Status of the free trade zones of Antofagasta and Puerto Villeta.

Models and Proposals Governance Model: Analysis of the governance model for the Bioceanic Corridor. Common Customs Agenda: Proposal for a common customs agenda. Electronic Transport Corridor: Possibility of creating an electronic transport corridor.

Presentations Productive Reference Map: Presentation of a productive reference map of the Bioceanic Corridor. University Network of the Bioceanic Route: Update on cooperation in this area.

Visit to Loma Plata

On Tuesday, May 2, high-ranking officials from the four countries visited the town of Loma Plata, thanks to the logistical support of “Cooperativa Chortizer Ltda.”, and toured the area where the Bioceanic Corridor will pass through.

Technical Sessions

On Wednesday, May 3, the Group’s work continued with various technical sessions.

Closing

The meeting concluded in the afternoon in the assembly hall of the Palacio Benigno López.
