III Working Group Meeting of Jujuy – 2016

Activity: III Meeting of the Working Group of the Bioceanic Road Corridor

Date: October 4-5, 2016

Location: San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina

Participants: Representatives and authorities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

Objectives: The main objective of the III Meeting was to strengthen cooperation among the involved countries, define integration proposals, and enhance local economies, as well as to identify and resolve logistical and border barriers.

Working Groups: During the meeting, four working groups focused on different key aspects of the project:

Public Works, Logistics, and Transport:

  • Topics covered: Work plans and schedules, service areas, and logistics centers.
  • Results: Priorities were defined, and specific timelines for the works were established.

Production and Trade:

  • Topics covered: Productive capacities, products and value chains, industrial areas, and trade flows.
  • Results: Opportunities to enhance trade and production in the participating countries were identified.

Simplification of Border Procedures:

  • Topics covered: Evaluation of simplified procedures in customs, migration, and sanitary controls.
  • Results: Proposal to implement electronic systems for cargo traceability and to streamline border procedures.

University Network:

  • Topics covered: Analysis of capacities in response to the corridor’s demand, development of websites, information, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Results: Planning of research and development projects to support the corridor’s growth.

Conclusions:

  • Advances and results from each working group were presented and discussed.
  • Short- and medium-term tasks for each area were defined.
  • Visits to the ongoing works were conducted, and commitment acts were signed.

Observations: The meeting strengthened cooperation and coordinated efforts among the participating countries, reaffirming the commitment to advance the development of the Bioceanic Road Corridor. Continuous collaboration and effective communication among the different working groups were highlighted as crucial.

Next Steps:

  • Follow-up on the commitments made and evaluation of progress in subsequent meetings.
  • Organization of sector-specific meetings to address particular issues and continue the development of the corridor.
