SALTA (ARGENTINA) – In an effort to continue strengthening regional integration and development, the III Integration Forum of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor was held in the provinces of Salta and Jujuy, Argentina, on April 12 and 13. As a result, the Corridor was recognized as a reality, having surpassed the project phase. This was evident in each presentation, highlighting the investments made and the timelines provided for the completion of each segment for the Corridor’s full operation.
Presided over by Julio Argentino San Millán, Minister of International Relations for the Province of Salta, the event included the participation of prominent political leaders, businesspeople, representatives of international organizations, and infrastructure experts from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay.
Attendees presented significant advancements and innovative proposals to optimize the region’s logistical and economic competitiveness. Additionally, strategies were explored to consolidate cooperation among the participating countries and ensure the necessary financing for priority projects.
Contribution of International Organizations
The involvement of international credit organizations, such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), was recognized as a positive action. The participation aimed to bring the experience of these organizations based on developed studies and the available financing tools to enhance key aspects of the Corridor.
A positive outcome of the forum also included the public-private collaboration through five thematic tables, where the following topics were addressed:
Fulfilling the mandate of the Antofagasta Declaration, the reaffirmation of the National Governments’ commitment to developing the Corridor was highlighted, evidenced by the presence of Argentina’s Deputy Foreign Minister; the Chilean Ambassador to Argentina, who, along with the Regional Governor of Antofagasta, visited the Sico Border Complex to inspect the state of border connectivity.
Lastly, it was agreed to hold the next IV Forum in the City of Iquique during the second half of November of the current year, as offered by the Regional Government of Tarapacá.
