In Calama, Governor Ricardo Díaz begins the 2026 work of the multisectoral tables of the bioceanic corridor announcing a strong emphasis on security

More than 130 key actors, including regional and ministerial authorities, representatives of various public and private institutions, academics and organized civil society were part of the working groups focused on Infrastructure, Border Processes, Local Productive Development and Security.

The first session of the year 2026 of the Regional and Multisectoral Governance of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor was held in the commune of Calama. The meeting aims to strengthen collaboration between regional and ministerial authorities and representatives of various public, private, academic and civil society institutions, for the implementation of an agenda focused on the development of the Corridor that seeks to improve physical and digital infrastructure, optimize border procedures and promote productive and economic development in the region.  in addition to coordinating work with a strong emphasis on the safety of the Corridor.

“We have announced the creation of the Security Table, where we hope that the prosecutor’s office, the police, all those elements that have to guarantee that the Bioceanic Corridor is safe. In this way, working together, we are going to face the threats we have and, above all, we are going to develop our region,” said Governor Ricardo Díaz. Along these lines, the highest regional authority added that “if we want the Bioceanic Corridor to become a corridor of development, that we attract industry, more employment, that our cities change to cities of services, we have to all, from the territories, raise the needs,” he said.

KEY ACTORS FOR THE WORK

The meeting allows the participation of all the actors and territories of the Antofagasta region, since in addition to Governor Ricardo Díaz, the Presidential Delegate of El Loa, Cristian Ramírez, the Mayor of Antofagasta, Sacha Razmilic, the Director of the Communal Planning Secretariat (SECPLAC), Matías Díaz, representing the municipality of Calama, attended. Also present were General Cristian Montre, Chief of the II Zone of Carabineros, as well as the PDI, the army, the Navy, Customs, SAG, the Border Crossing Unit, among other services; the seremis of Transport, Public Works, Environment, Mining and Energy, Regional Councilors, Calama Councilors, executives of ports, railways, unions, businessmen, entrepreneurs and organized civil society.

For Mayor Sacha Razmilic, Antofagasta should not only be seen as a port of embarkation, “but also a point where businesses are developed and jobs are generated for our commune and for the region. So I was very interested in coming and catching up with the work of the different tables, knowing how we were progressing and the truth is that I am very happy and satisfied with what I saw,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of the SECPLAC of the Municipality of Calama, Matías Díaz, said that they are very satisfied with the work and that it was carried out in the commune, “we hope to obtain good results to be able to move forward in all the sessions that come from here on out, and always with the will to join forces to advance for the development of the commune and especially of the region,”  He indicated.

During the meeting, information was also provided on the interstate, subnational and regional organization of the Bioceanic Corridor, in front of which the Presidential Delegate of El Loa, Cristian Ramírez, dwelt on issues related to security “we are very happy that the issue has been addressed seriously. We see that there are the armed forces, of order and public security, we see that our services are there […] It is a very big challenge, but I think we can address it in the best way,” he concluded.

PRO TEMPORE PRESIDENCY OF THE CORRIDOR

Finally regarding the activities planned during the Pro Tempore Presidency of Governor Ricardo Díaz, it was announced that the first week of August, the International Pre-Forum will be held with the commissions of security, citizen participation and native peoples, in the commune of San Pedro de Atacama, while Tocopilla will host the commission of tourism and culture. Meanwhile, on November 24, 25 and 26, the VII Great Forum of Subnational Territories will be held in the cities of Antofagasta and Mejillones, events that include about a thousand guests from Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina, who will participate in the different business roundtables, business forums, forums of mayors, prefects and mayors.  the plenary of governors, as well as the thematic working commissions already established.
