Event: II Integration Forum of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor (CBC)

Activity Objective
The objective of the forum was to discuss and expedite regional integration through the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, establishing national policies that facilitate cooperation among participating countries and advance sustainable development and regional connectivity.
Activity Description
Presided over by Ricardo Díaz Cortes, Regional Governor of Antofagasta, the forum brought together political leaders, businesspeople, representatives of international organizations, and infrastructure experts from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay. During the event, the following key points were addressed:
Challenges and Variables to Incorporate: Five fundamental variables for the development of the corridor were identified:
Additionally, there was a discussion on how subnational governments can incorporate new cultures and work towards a common goal.
Governance Proposal: A governance proposal seeking effective participation and coordination among countries, involving their foreign ministries, was presented. While no explicit agreement was reached, the discussion on how to manage this international project was initiated.
Creation of New Working Groups
The motion to create the Sustainability Table and the Integration and Citizen Participation with a Gender Focus Table was approved. The working committees were organized as follows:
Encouraging Governor Meetings
It was proposed to encourage regular meetings among governors as part of the commitment to strengthen the presence and participation of the highest authorities in the territories. It is also expected that mayors will actively engage to reinvigorate the realization of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor.
Next Steps
The next forum, the III Integration Forum of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, will be held in April 2023 in Argentina, specifically in the Province of Salta, with the participation of the Province of Jujuy.
