Event: IV Integration Forum of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor (CBC)

Activity Objective
The objective of the forum was to consolidate and strengthen the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor as a catalyst for regional integration, promoting sustainable development and connectivity among the participating states. This effort aims to improve the quality of life for the inhabitants of the involved territories.
Activity Description
Presided over by José Miguel Carvajal Gallardo, Regional Governor of Tarapacá, the forum brought together governors and representatives from various subnational states. During the event, two new commissions were established: the Sustainability Commission and the Citizen Participation Commission, with a Gender and Indigenous Peoples Perspective. These commissions represent a strategic and social advance in the development of the corridor.
Recognitions and Consultations: The initiative of the IDB, developed by Salta, Antofagasta, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Boquerón, was highlighted and congratulated. Consultations were made with Leonardo Diniz, IDB representative, and Alejandra Rald, in charge of the Master Plan, regarding the action plan that includes strengthening government management and infrastructure. Importance of the Private Sector: The crucial role of the private sector in the development of the Corridor was recognized, and the previous work with private actors was valued, opening the door to future collaborations.
Creation of the Executive Commission
The seven regional governments agreed to create an “Executive Commission,” with a professional designated by each Subnational State. This commission aims to energize the Corridor, develop analyses and proposals, and coordinate the technical work of the various commissions.

Next Steps
The next forum, the V Integration Forum of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, is scheduled for the first half of 2024 in Alto Paraguay and Boquerón, Paraguay.
