Activity: X Meeting of the Working Group of the Bioceanic Corridor

Participants: Representatives and observers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay.
Opening: The X Meeting of the Working Group of the Bioceanic Corridor began with an opening by the National Coordinator of Chile, Ambassador Andrés Villar. Following this, the Regional Governor of Tarapacá, Mr. José Miguel Carvajal, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the Bioceanic Corridor for regional development. Subsequently, the Consul of Argentina in Antofagasta, Mrs. Ana Carolina Massuh, the National Coordinator of Brazil, Minister Joao Parkinson de Castro, and the Head of Delegation of Paraguay, Minister Blas Felip, reaffirmed their commitment to the project.

Working Group Meetings: Over the two days of the meeting, the coordinators of the following groups met:
Border Procedures Simplification Group: Highlighted the collection of data on key variables such as distance traveled, average speed, border wait times, type of vehicles, and transported cargo. Agreed to continue gathering information and hold sectoral meetings related to Customs, Immigration, Transport, and Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Control.
Infrastructure, Logistics, and Transport Group: Paraguay presented advances in bridges and roads, as well as consultations related to territorial development and identifying barriers in the Corridor. Chile and Paraguay agreed to replicate the vehicle circulation guide presented by Brazil and accelerate the development of logistical and port issues.
Production and Trade Group: Reported advances and activities since the last meeting in 2022. Confirmed the commitment to identify sectors and products for productive chains in bio-economic, forestry, and agricultural sectors. Proposed the creation of a logistics, production, and trade observatory.
Tourism Group: Emphasized the importance of having tourism information from the four countries and suggested using the platform for tourism mapping. Proposed collaborating on the development of a Bioceanic Corridor brand.
Conclusions: Agreed to evaluate the creation of a Security Group during 2024. The Executive Secretariat of the Bioceanic Corridor will be transferred from Chile to Paraguay until November 2024. Argentina committed to conveying the commitments assumed to its authorities.
