Riedel proposes a Brazilian consulate in the Argentine city of the Bioceanic Route

The governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, Eduardo Riedel (PP), proposed that the Brazilian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, create a consulate in northern Argentina, a region that will be crossed by the bioceanic corridor that crosses Mato Grosso do Sul.
The installation of a Brazilian diplomatic representation in northern Argentina, in cities such as San Salvador de Jujuy, could favor the business environment of Brazilian companies along the Bioceania Route, in addition to providing assistance to citizens who must transit through this new corridor.
The request was made by Eduardo Riedel at the end of August, when he addressed it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The city, according to Riedel, occupies a strategic position in the connection between Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.
For the governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, a permanent diplomatic representation in San Salvador de Jujuy can contribute to the monitoring of cargo transport flows, support for Brazilian companies that use the Bioceanic Route and the optimization of procedures related to international trade and transit.
In the request, the governor also recalls the possible increase in the flow of travelers in the Andean region, especially due to the increase in tourism.
“The geographical distance of more than 900 kilometers imposes severe logistical barriers and high costs for the movement of Brazilian residents and tourists who need regular services or emergency assistance in a timely manner,” Riedel says in the letter addressed to Minister Mauro Vieira.
In the document, Eduardo Riedel asks the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carry out technical and budgetary feasibility studies to evaluate the creation of the new consular office.
The measure, according to the governor, would contribute to strengthening the integration of the South American Southern Cone and the Brazilian presence in the region.
The Route
The Bioceanic Corridor seeks to integrate the four countries it crosses: Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile. Among its main objectives is to create a new route to connect ports in the Pacific Ocean, in Chile, with producing regions in Brazil and Paraguay.
It is in these last two countries where the largest works are being carried out to make the route viable: in Brazil, a new customs office and a detour are being built in Porto Murtiño, in addition to the binational bridge over the Paraguay River, between the cities of Porto Murtinho and Carmelo Peralta.
On the Paraguayan side, a highway that crosses the inhospitable Chaco is being paved. It will connect Paraguay’s borders with Brazil and Paraguay with Argentina.
The highways between Argentina and Chile are already established, but they could have their capacity expanded. The route would facilitate access to cities such as Iquique and Antofagasta, in Chile.
In addition to cargo transport, the Bioceanic Route has a protocol axis that must be simplified to expand regional integration and effectively favor trade, tourism, investments, cultural exchange and cooperation between the countries involved. The creation of a Consulate General in Jujuy, proposed by Governor Eduardo Riedel, is precisely related to the importance of these procedures and the relevance that the region has acquired in this new integrating nucleus.
