Tuesday October 13th, 2026

Authorities from both jurisdictions held a meeting to advance the regional integration agenda, with a focus on connectivity through the Sico International Pass and the link with the ports of the Pacific Ocean.

The governor of Salta, Gustavo Sáenz, received the regional governor of Antofagasta, Ricardo Díaz Cortés, in a meeting aimed at strengthening ties between the two territories and advancing connectivity and regional integration initiatives.

During the meeting, the authorities highlighted the strategic importance of the Sico International Pass and the need to promote actions that facilitate border circulation, streamline control procedures and provide greater guarantees to transport and tourism.

Likewise, initiatives related to road connectivity were addressed, including the paving of National Route 51, in the section between Mina Poma, Alto Chorrillos and Campo Amarillo, and the road investments planned in Chile, including the Sico-Baquedano bypass, aimed at improving the connection with Antofagasta.

The articulation between Salta and Antofagasta is part of a shared agenda to strengthen the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, promote exchange between both territories and generate opportunities for local development.

Within the framework of the meeting, Ricardo Díaz Cortés invited Governor Gustavo Sáenz to participate in the VIII Forum of the Subnational Territories of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, which will be held in Antofagasta from November 23 to 26, 2026.

Nora Biaggini Suárez, head of the International Affairs Unit of the Regional Government of Antofagasta, and Virginia Valdés, head of Regional Integration, also participated.
